Spring is FINALLY here! It's time to get outside and explore for our little ones. One of my favorite Spring activities in the classroom is getting Butterfly larvae so we can watch them grow and change into butterflies! The kids LOVE this activity every year and learning about the Life Cycle of a butterfly. I created this FREE Mini Book to go along with your Butterfly Unit!
I always purchase my caterpillars from Insect Lore. I just discovered that they are actually on Amazon Prime!!! SCORE! The first year I did this, I bought the entire Butterfly Garden, but after you have that, all you'll need each year is the Caterpillars. You can find them here:
Here is one of our beautiful butterflies from last year:
We spend several weeks observing, journaling, and learning all about butterflies in the Spring. It is such a cool process from start to finish for students! They really gain an understanding of the life cycle. This LOW prep Mini Book will be perfect to add to your lessons!
To prep your Mini Books, you need to print one book per student. Each book is only ONE PAGE! That is what I love about Mini Books. They only use 1 sheet of paper, and every student gets to take home a book to read over and over again. You could also print them in color and laminate them to use year after year.
To fold the books, lay the page flat:
You will fold down once on the middle gray guideline:
And then again on the other gray guideline. That's it! Super easy to prep.
You could also print them in Black and White to allow students to color in each picture.
